Camera Link HS License/Product Registration
Developing with Camera Link HS
Anyone wishing to develop, manufacture, or sell private-labeled compliant products for commercial purposes or to develop compliant software for distribution must obtain a license to use the Camera Link HS standard and the Camera Link HS name and logo from the A3. A3 offers a free download of the standard for evaluation. Licensing should occur when you start to utilize the intellectual property (IP) of the standard for development. All products (including software) must be registered with the A3 and must be tested for compliancy with the standard.
Anyone who has purchased Camera Link HS compliant product and wishes to do their own unique one-off integration or application development may use the standard without a license for intra-company or intra-academic departmental use only. System integration companies may use the standard without a license to provide integration service to their customers.
Camera Link HS IP Core Solution
The Camera Link HS committee has developed Intellectual Property (IP) Cores for both the M and X protocol implementations of the Camera Link HS standard. The M protocol supports 3.125 Gbps links, while the X protocol supports 10 Gbps links. 10 Gbps links can be achieved using 10 Gbps capable FPGA serdes or by using XAUI capable FPGA serdes (4 x 3.125Gbps) and a XAUI to SFI conversion chip. Both cores have the same system capabilities but will meet different application needs. The cores are maintained by the A3 and are available for purchase. The cores enable:
- Short time to market
- Reduced development risk
- Guaranteed interoperability
- Reduced support costs
- Ability to focus on device features rather than protocol development
- A support community to answer questions and improve the technology
Download a detailed PDF flyer on the M protocol and the X protocol.
To purchase the M protocol, the X protocol or both ($1,000.00 USD per protocol), please submit the IP Core Purchase Request. Upon receipt of your request form, a Camera Link HS IP Core Solution License Agreement will be emailed to you (see sample copy) - this must be signed and returned to A3. Upon receipt of the signed agreement and payment, the Core(s) will be sent to you.
Camera Link HS License/Product Registration Program
Once you have developed the product, the license/registration program gives you the license to use Camera Link HS in a commercial product, plus the use of the Camera Link HS name and logo. Maintaining your product license/registration participation is required for the licensed right to use Camera Link HS technology in commercial products.

After the initial licensing, an annual renewal invoice will be sent to your company. Registration is submitted for each individual product and there is no limitation to the number of individual product registrations that can be submitted and covered by the annual fee. Subsequent registrations are required when introducing a new product; and may also be needed for new version releases or firmware changes that would affect the compliancy matrix.
All product license/registration program companies are required to attend our periodic "plugfests" to test your product with products from other vendors for interoperability and functionality. These sessions offer opportunities for peer review and engineering development of new products, and a better understanding of the standard, the coding, and interpretations of the application. These events are also the opportunity to test your product against the validation framework to prove compliancy.
To initiate the development process, please review and submit the Camera Link HS License Application. It describes the registration and compliancy process. Click here to access this form and all vision standards license applications and compliancy docs.
