6-Axis Stages - Hexapod Positioning Systems
POSTED 05/02/2022
PI is extending its base of hexapod 6-axis stages and applications. Hexapods are parallel robotic manipulators for applications where a load needs to be moved in 6-DOF (six degrees of freedom) i.e. 3 linear degrees of freedom (X, Y, Z) and 3 rotary degrees of freedom (pitch, yaw and roll). PI hexapods use advanced vector hexapod controllers that allow motions to be programmed and executed simultaneously in one of 6-axis. A path can be programmed to be followed where movement in other axis can be prevented, there is a randomized pivot point feature that is very useful in multi-axis alignment applications. A very precise hexapod positioning system with absolute encoders and brushless motors is the H-840 hexapod family, that is also CIPA certified to test cameras for imaging and vision systems.

Hexapod parallel positioning systems are typically more compact, steffer and provide higher load capacity compared to traditional 6-axis stages of similar size. PI hexapods use a parallel arrangement of high precison actuators and extremely precise custom joints to provide very high repeatabiity and accuracy. Additional videos on hexapod 6 axis robots and multi-axis systems are shown here. In addition to standard hexapds, PI has designed a large variety of custom models for applications inlcuding high precision positioning, multi-axis motion simulation and also vibration isolation. PI hexapds have been designed with linear motors, screw drive actuators and piezelectric motors. For more information, see our wealth of hexapod positioning systems applications.
