I'm looking to inspect flat sheet metal patterns. Ideally i want to take a picture with the sheet metal pattern on a light table, a software to detect the edges then compare this with a dxf or 2D electronic drawing of the part, complete with GD&T. Are there off the shelf solutions for this, or software which imports pictures and gives the user the ability to generate a report for the part?
Nasir, We have a solution similar to this that could be tuned for your purpose. We have a tool scan inspection system, where tools are scanned on a light table, and then CAD data is produced for cutting the foam that tools are placed in inside the tool boxes. We are in urgent need for a machine vision system to detect a foreign material particles of size ~10 microns and bigger on flat dark surface ~ 250mm x 150mm. We need to be able to detect these particles and remove them before next operation can commence. Hello, I am looking into designing a table hockey based robot game, where vision and control would be used to track the movement of the puck and the response from the robots hockey players. It would need to be able to handle 6 players, including the goalie. Do you know of any cameras and motion controllers that could handle the speed of this type of robot game? Cost is unimportant as I just want to make it work for now. I am not sure if a micrcontroller could handle the speed of the system or if I will have to use a computer. Your help is appreciated. As the problem you describe is obviously key to the vision system being successful, you need to get the sample scanned, and ensure you get the results you expect. Send us a sample, we'll scan it and send you a report.
Hello. I am interested in the minimum requirements for tracking humans walking out of a store in a shopping mall. I would like to be able to determine the number of shoppers that walk out of my stores with a shopping bag in hand. This is industry research data I am trying to gather from a retail environment where many people may be walking in view of the camera. Specifically I would like to know the number of people that walk in to my store, out of my store, and the presence of a clothing store shopping bag in hand. Ideally a small standalone camera could either do all processing or provide video data for off-site analysis. Solution should be small and require only a network connection to provide video out or a the various people counts we desire. Solutions are also ideally under $200 for the camera-location installed component. A small systems board nearby or integrated with the camera system would also be suitable. WiFi transmission of data out is also ideal.
Cyrus, The cost constraints seem to be quite tight, but I was wondering what volume of systems you are looking at? This obviously has an effect on these types of systems.

Saeedeh, For you to determine the specifications for an egg sorter, you need to be able to define the difference in the egg classification - for example, if you are only sorting by color, get the lowest resolution camera, and only process the central are of the egg to determine color. If you are trying to grade the eggs by size, then you will need to get the camera that has enough pixels (you'll need between 5-10 pixels) to show the difference between the 2 nearest eggs you are trying to classify. A camera lens combination with a FOV that represents your largest egg would be your best solution. Good luck with the project, just try and ensure you break the problem completely before you start.

Karen, These are the kinds of questions you are going to be asked. How big are the castings? What is the smallest defect that you want to see? Are there 3D issues that you will be looking at? What kind of environment is this - pretty dirty I'm presuming. How will you reject defects? What is the criticality of a false defect? What is the cycle time for the inspection? How much are the castings worth? These are typical questions that you will asked from a company wanting to help you. Can you provide us with samples - we can run them through our vision lab, and show you results without any investment on your part.
Good afternoon, I came across your website online and wanted to inquire about some products. I am looking for a solution that I can use in a manufacturing facility to mount to a piece of equipment in order to receive a command, take a decent resolution photograph, create a file which will be linked to an order and fed back into our system for later review, filing etc. The solution would need to use Ethernet for connection to our system. Kristen, Are you looking for components or a complete solution. We are a Machine Vision Integrator, and would be willing to create a bolt on solution for you if that is the route you want to go down. The following questions will need to be answered to allow camera selection: 1. Field of View - the total area that the camera will be looking at, at the depth away from the camera that the object(s) are. 2. The smallest item that you want to be able to make out. 3. You also need to consider working distance - distance from the camera to the objects that you are viewing.
