CoaXPress
The CoaXPress digital interface was developed for high-speed image data transmission and intended mainly for machine vision applications. The interface is also suitable for other imaging applications and for high speed data transmission in other fields. CoaXPress uses coaxial cable as a physical medium.
CoaXPress is hosted by the Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA). The JIIA CoaXPress Technical Committee is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the standard. Contributions are also made by the CoaXPress Consortium and the CoaXPress Liaison Group, which is for members of the AIA and EMVA.
EMVA 1288
1288 defines a unified method to measure, compute and present specification parameters for cameras and image sensors used for machine vision applications. The application of this standard will benefit users of vision components by avoiding misunderstanding and reducing pre- and post-support cycles.
The standard is elaborated by a consortium of industry-leading sensor and camera manufacturers, distributors, and component customers and is hosted by the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA).
GenICAM™
The goal of GenICamTM is to provide a generic programming interface for all kinds of cameras. No matter what interface technology (GigE Vision, Camera Link, 1394 DCAM, USB, etc.) they are using or what features they are implementing, the application programming interface (API) should be always the same.
The GenICam standard consists of multiple modules according to the main tasks to be solved:
- GenApi: configuring the camera
- Standard Feature Naming Convention (SFNC): recommended names and types for common features. Includes the Pixel Format Naming Convention (PFNC).
- GenTL: transport layer interface, grabbing images
The GenICam standard group is hosted by the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA).
Lens Mount Standards by JIIA
Lens Mounts for Machine Vision Cameras – NF Mount Standard and Operational Regulations
LE-003-2008
This standard specifies the fixing screws and flange focal distance of NF mount machine vision cameras.
Lens Mounts for Machine Vision Cameras – Lens Mount Sizes
LE-002-2008
This standard provides the lens mount sizes matched to image sizes for industrial cameras.
Lens Mounts for Machine Vision Cameras – Classification of Images Sizes
LE-001-2007
This standard provides the classification of image size of lens mounts industrial cameras.
The standards are hosted by the Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA). Visit www.jiia.org for more information.

ASTM 3D Imaging System Standards
ASTM Committee E57 on 3D Imaging Systems is developing standards for 3D machine vision systems that can be used in robotic manufacturing applications. These systems include passive and active sensors such as stereo cameras, structured light scanners, and laser scanners, and associated software for making measurements in three dimensions. ASTM E57 includes participants from the private and public sectors, academia, and other research organizations, as well as individuals interested in 3D imaging. The committee has developed the following standards that are relevant to the machine vision community, and it is actively seeking additional topics and relevant stakeholders to contribute to its standards portfolio.
ASTM E57 also serves other applications of 3D imaging systems such as for construction, forensics, surveying and mapping, autonomous driving, and metrology.
