GigE Vision License/Product Registration

The GigE Vision® standard has four elements:

1. The GigE Vision Control Protocol (GVCP), which runs on top of Universal Datagram Protocol (UDP) IPv4. It defines how to control and configure compliant devices such as cameras, specifies stream channels and provides mechanisms for cameras to send image and control data to host computers.
2. The GigE Vision Stream Protocol (GVSP), which defines data types and describes how images are transmitted over Gigabit Ethernet.
3. The GigE Device Discovery Mechanism, which defines how cameras and other compliant devices obtain IP addresses.
4. An XML description file based on the GenICam™ standard, which provides the equivalent of a computer-readable datasheet to allow access to camera controls and image stream.

Anyone wishing to develop, manufacture, or sell private-labeled compliant products for commercial purposes or to develop compliant software for distribution must obtain a license to use the GigE Vision standard and the GigE Vision name and logo from the A3. A3 offers a free download of the standard for evaluation. Licensing should occur when you start to utilize the intellectual property (IP) of the standard for development. All products (including software) must be registered with the A3 and must be tested for compliancy with the standard.

Anyone who has purchased GigE Vision compliant product and wishes to do their own unique one-off integration or application development may use the standard without a license for intra-company or intra-academic departmental use only. System integration companies may use the standard without a license to provide integration service to their customers.

 

GigE Vision License/Product Registration Program

Once you have developed the product, the license/registration program gives you the license to use GigE Vision in a commercial product plus the use of the GigE Vision name and logo. Maintaining your product license/registration participation is required for the licensed right to use GigE Vision technology in commercial products.

GigE Vision Annual License Fees:

A3 Member Companies
GigE Vision License/Product Registration - $1,000.00 USD per year

Benefits include:

• Licensed use of the GigE Vision technology in a commercial product;
• Licensed use of the A3 owned registered trademark and logo;
• High-resolution logo copy;
• Unlimited insertions in the AUTOMATE.ORG Product Catalog which gives each registered compliant product a full-page, photo, and details; plus the inclusion of the searchable GigE Vision Product Catalog on the dedicated webpage for GigE Vision;
• Product listings each have a quick RFQ request link that is sent directly to you, plus a link to your Company Profile Page with full contact information;
• “GigE Vision compliant” seal is displayed on your product catalog pages.
• Inclusion in marketing campaigns sponsored by the A3 in support of the standard.

Non-A3 Member Companies
GigE Vision License/Product Registration - $1,750.00 USD per year

Benefits include:

• Licensed use of the GigE Vision technology in a commercial product;
• Licensed use of the A3 owned registered trademark and logo;
• High-resolution logo copy;
• Unlimited insertions in the AUTOMATE.ORG Product Catalog which gives each registered compliant product a full-page, photo, and details; plus the inclusion of the searchable GigE Vision Product Catalog on the dedicated webpage for GigE Vision
• “GigE Vision compliant” seal is displayed on your product catalog pages.

After the initial licensing, an annual renewal invoice will be sent to your company. There is no limitation to the number of individual product registrations that can be submitted and covered by the annual fee. Subsequent registrations are required when introducing a new product, and may also be needed for new version releases or firmware changes that would affect the compliancy matrix or validation framework.

Registrations may be made for individual products (i.e., camera a, b and c) or a family of products (i.e., model x cameras). If you register a family, you must provide the family name for each individual product known at the time of registration and subsequently refer to the same family name as new products are developed and posted to AUTOMATE.ORG so that we may verify compliancy of each product.

All product license/registration program companies are required to attend our periodic "plugfests" to test your product with products from other vendors for interoperability and functionality. These sessions offer opportunities for peer review and engineering development of new products, and a better understanding of the standard, the coding, and interpretations of the application. These events are also the opportunity to test your product against the validation framework to prove compliancy.
