High-Precision 2D Measuring System for Connector Assemblies

Challenge

In many connector assemblies, especially in automotive and industrial electronics, the gap between contact surfaces must be controlled to avoid premature wear, signal loss, or assembly failure. Manual inspection is prone to inconsistency and wear over time, and standard optical systems often lack the resolution or stability required for extremely small measurements.

Measurement System

The solution utilized senswork's VisionUnit system, a 2D optical measuring platform configured for precision gap measurement tasks in connector assemblies.

Mechanical Integration

To ensure stable part positioning and optimal imaging, a couple of mechanisms were put in place. The first was a custom clamping mechanism that holds the connector assembly firmly in place. Secondly, light diffusers provided homogeneous, high-contrast illumination of the narrow gaps between contact surfaces. By combining precision mechanics, electronics, and optics, the system was able to deliver reliable and repeatable results.

Outcome
