Passive Technology
Automated Passive Compliant Tools are simple, less-expensive, open-loop devices. They rely on external, customer-supplied air pressure regulators to set the applied force. While they may lack the ultra-high precision and flexibility of Active compliance, they work extremely well for less demanding flat or prismatic parts or more specialized processes like Weld Shaving where high-accuracy force control is unnecessary.
AFD72
The AFD72 is part of PushCorp's Passive Compliance series. This end effector can apply up to 50 lbf [222 N] in any orientation. Unlike the active series, this equipment relies on an external air pressure regulator to set the applied force. This pressure must change when a new orientation is programmed in order to maintain a constant force. For this reason, the AFD72 is most commonly used for robotic material removal applications with flat or prismatic parts.
The STC1503-BT30, SM1503, STC0605-BT30, and SM0605 are servo spindles optimized to mount to the AFD72. Together, they can automate a wide variety of robotic processes:
If the application will have impact loading, interrupted cuts, or require a heavier spindle our AFD82 is the second largest in the series. It features a more robust set of linear bearings and can apply 100 lbf [444 N].
The AFD72 Series is available in three configurations: AFD72-1 Vertical, AFD72-2 Horizontal, and the AFD72-3 Table Top. The units are functionally identical, but differ in the orientation with which they attach to the robot wrist, or mount to a table. This allows you to optimize robot reach and dexterity for your particular application.
