Introducing the latest CoaXPress over Fiber Frame Grabber

POSTED 03/20/2025

Active Silicon, the specialist manufacturer of imaging products, has released its latest FireBird acquisition card – the 4xCOF-12 frame grabber. It uses trusted CoaXPress FireBird technology and is designed to work with fiber optic cables.

Using fiber optics for high-speed imaging has significant benefits where long cable runs are required, or cameras are placed in harsh electrical environments. With the correct choice of cable and optical transceiver module, cameras can be placed kilometers from the frame grabber and the PC.

The FireBird CoaXPress over Fiber 4xCOF-12 frame grabber has a QSFP+ compliant port which acquires image data at a rate of up to 40Gbps. It features comprehensive I/O including I/O at the end panel and is fully GenICam compliant. Active Silicon’s proprietary DMA Engine technology, “ActiveDMA” guarantees high-speed image data transfer with zero CPU intervention.

The CXP over Fiber frame grabber is also available with data forwarding functionality. Here, a second QSFP+ connector allows data forwarding (Aurora, CoaXPress over Fiber formats) for applications that need redundant processing solutions or where image processing needs to be split over multiple PCs.

For a complete vision system, engineers can consider the Oncilla Machine Vision Computer – CoaXPress over Fiber. This rugged industrial PC has an integrated FireBird 4xCOF-12 frame grabber installed.
