Challenge

Fakra connectors, used in automotive and telecommunications applications, require precise quality control to validate both their PCB connections and external interface alignment. The challenge was to design a modular, adaptable solution capable of accommodating various connector assemblies while providing inspection on both the PCB and interface sides.

Solution

To meet these requirements, we developed a turnkey manual test station equipped with two high-resolution cameras:

• 25-megapixel camera for inspecting the PCB side, ensuring circuit integrity and solder quality.
• 5-megapixel camera for examining the interface side, checking for proper alignment and connector integrity.

The inspection system features an adjustable viewing direction for the interface camera, enabling precise alignment for various connector types. Its modular construction allows easy reconfiguration for inspecting different Fakra assemblies. Additionally, the system uses interchangeable part cameras, making it highly adaptable for future requirements.
