Robotic Paint Stripping for Full Aircraft
SwRI has installed two multiple-robot full-aircraft paint stripping systems for the United States Air Force for the F-15 and F-16 fighter jets. SwRI is currently developing a similar system for the F-22 fighter. The systems employ an environmentally friendly, nonchemical dry media blasting process, suited to the delicate aluminum and composite materials common to military aircraft surfaces.
