The Bot Brief

POSTED 09/16/2024

"There is no force on earth more powerful than an idea whose time has come."

- Victor Hugo

Bots in the News:

The markets recovered nicely following the prior week’s devastating downturn. The S & P 500 rose a bit over 4% while the Bot Index gained 5.09%. Some information indicating a bit of relief from inflation was the likely culprit of the rebound. All eyes will be on the Fed this week as Chairman Powell and his Board of Governors will determine the course of interest rates. Throwing more uncertainty is the recent announcement by Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan Chase) indicating his concern over the emergence of a ‘stagflation’ theme over the economy. He worries that the looming deficit problem might manifest itself with a bounce back in inflationary pressures could force that ‘worst of all’ outcomes.

The bots were boosted by double digit increases recorded by four of the components. Chief among the strong performers for the week was the rebound posted by NVIDIA Corp. The company jumped 15.82% as investors decided that the prior few weeks had overdone their concerns regarding uncertainty of AI’s financial future.

Tesla and its Chinese rival each rose double-digits while lower priced holdings of the Bot Index each bounced significantly. 3D Systems gained 31.38% and iRobot increased 21.27%.
