Bots In the News:Bot Index vs. S & P 500

The Bot Index gained a mere .11% in last week’s trading. While there was only one double digit gainer within the bots, there was  notable strength in all the Index’s Japanese components. Only one domestic issue carried any significant momentum through the week and that was the topsy turvy volatility of NVIDIA Corp. With its earnings report scheduled for mid-week, early trading saw profit taking in advance of the announcement (hint…buy on rumors, sell on report!), The stock sank from $726.13 to a low of $677.34 before recovering following the blockbuster earnings and sales statement to a high of $823.94. Late trading on Friday saw the stock give up some of its gains and close at $788.87.

The Japanese and Asian companies all came in strongly for the week. Even the weak earnings and sales report of OMRON Corp. two weeks ago saw the stock surge 8.64%. Interestingly, the best performance was the 10.39% increase by Hiwin Technologies, a Taiwanese company. Perhaps, the arrival of a U.S. delegation of lawmakers reinforced the sovereignty of the region. Yaskawa Electric came in with a 6.44% gain.

All the weakest components of the Bot Index were volatile, low-priced issues. 3D Systems led the domestic losers with a 10.41% decline. The Chinese EV maker NIO Corp. fell 12% due to increasing pressure on both the electric vehicle industry and the growing weakness in the Chinese economy.
