Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) Supports IntervalZero RTX64 (RTOS) Platform

POSTED 11/04/2014

Montreal and WALTHAM, MA — Matrox Imaging and IntervalZero today announced Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) support for IntervalZero’s RTX64 Real-time Operating System (RTOS) Platform.

The result of close collaboration between the two companies, MIL for RTX64 gives OEMs of high-throughput, time- and response-critical machine vision sub-systems an alternative to using expensive, proprietary image-acquisition and processing hardware.

Guidance, inspection and identification applications can be deployed such that the demanding vision and control functions run in RTX64’s highly deterministic environment while the rest of the applications, such as the HMI and archiving operations, run in a familiar Windows environment on standard PCs.

Through a separate real-time scheduler, IntervalZero’s RTX64 real-time software transforms the Windows general-purpose operating system into a fully functional RTOS that runs entirely on x64 multicore hardware. The RTX64 scheduler uniquely enables embedded real-time applications to directly access the 512GB of addressable physical memory available on 64-bit Windows.

“Running the vision applications on RTX64 ensures that the mission-critical portion of the application responds in a predictable and consistent manner, delivering quality, performance and high throughput,” said Brian Calder, vice president, sales, for US-based IntervalZero. “MIL for RTX64 is the right solution for customers who need to implement vision within highly deterministic settings and do it all within the Windows development environment.”

“MIL is the first and only vision library to take advantage of IntervalZero’s ground-breaking real-time software,” said Sam Lopez, director sales and marketing, Matrox Imaging. “This introduction of MIL for RTX64 means that the most demanding machine vision applications can be implemented at a fraction of the previous cost. Proprietary real-time hardware can be replaced by software applications that run on standard PCs, without sacrificing performance or reliability.”

About Matrox Imaging Library (MIL)
First released in 1993, Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) is a comprehensive collection of software tools for developing industrial imaging applications. MIL includes tools for every step in the process: from application feasibility, to prototyping, through to development and ultimately deployment. The toolkit features interactive software and programming functions for image capture, processing, analysis, annotation, display, and archiving. These tools are designed to enhance productivity, thereby reducing the time and effort required to bring machine vision solutions to market.

Availability
Early access to support for RTX64 is now available as an update to MIL 10. The update provides support for video capture using GigE Vision® cameras and selected Matrox Radient frame grabbers. Official release is planned for Q2 2015.
