Digital Manufacturing Ireland
Transforming Value Chains Through Innovative Technology Adoption
Digital Manufcaturing Ireland is an Industry led national organisation that enables Irish based manufacturers to access, adopt and accelerate new digital technologies which solve real world challenges and drives their future competitiveness. With significant Government investment, DMI is responsible for transforming the manufacturing value chain through innovative technology across the integrated pillars of technology, supply chain, operations and skills and culture transformation. We are committed to supporting all manufacturers, both SMEs and MNCs, regardless of their size or level of technological maturity. Our success will be based on tangible benefits focusing entirely on impact over output. Our ambition is to create ecosystems for industry partners nationally and internationally, sharing experiences, best practice, and impactful solutions.
VCMG
The Visual Cognitive Manufacturing Group (VCMG), initiated by Digital Manufacturing Ireland in May 2023, is a collaborative effort aimed at promoting the widespread adoption of vision technology in manufacturing. The primary objective is to position Ireland as a global leader in the research, development, and deployment of vision systems within the manufacturing domain.
Core Principles and Governance:
Specialized Focus: Focused exclusively on Machine Vision and A.I. technologies applicable to manufacturing.
Industry Driven: Led by manufacturing companies to ensure sustained, tangible benefits for the manufacturing base.
Standardized Technology Solutions: Targets common manufacturing challenges, delivering standardized and reusable solutions while protecting background IP.
Membership: Open to all with no membership fees, requiring active contribution to the VCMG mission.
Mission, Vision & Values: The mission is to enhance Ireland’s reputation by advancing research, development, and deployment of vision technologies in manufacturing. VCMG upholds values such as trust, commitment, transparency, and the sharing of knowledge among its members.
Collaboration Frameworks: VCMG provides access to expert knowledge, fosters a community of practice in machine vision, engages with academia for skill development and future solutions in manufacturing, and works across industries and regions.
Membership Update: With over 100 signed-up members, VCMG includes representation from top multinationals and small to medium enterprises across various industries, such as medtech, semiconductor, pharma, plastics, industrial automation, chemicals, mechanical/industrial engineering, and food production.
Industry Challenges: Manufacturing companies have identified several key challenges, ranging from machine vision guidelines to precision measurement for inspection and assembly of micro and nano parts.
Call to Action: VCMG invites individuals and organizations interested in vision systems and cognitive manufacturing to join. Contact can be made through [email protected], and collaboration inquiries are encouraged.
Testimonials: Bill O’Leary, Director of Global Operations at West Pharmaceutical Services, emphasizes the importance of collaboration for embracing Industry 4.0 technologies and methodologies, stressing the mutual benefits of addressing shared challenges.
