RVSI Gets Order for Five Semiconductor Inspection Systems
CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS - September 25, 2000 - Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (NASDAQ: ROBV) today said it has received an order for five of its LS-7700 semiconductor inspection systems from a Singapore-based contract assembly house. The sale was made by RVSI's Electronics Division in Hauppauge, N.Y.
Machine-vision based semiconductor inspection systems are used by chip manufacturers to examine packaged integrated circuits. RVSI's systems check to ensure that leads on finished integrated circuits meet specification, and perform package visual inspection to find surface defects on parts.
RVSI's patented, laser-based 3-D technology provides the highest quality of machine vision available for connector, lead, and ball-grid-array inspection. "This order is part of a capacity expansion program by a long-time RVSI customer," said Michael Gray, Vice President - Sales and Marketing of RVSI Electronics.
"What makes the order of special interest to us is that as the customer has seen its contract test, assembly and packaging business expand throughout the year; purchases of RVSI inspection equipment have been part of each phase of the expansion; and each order has increased in size. This particular customer sees its business remaining strong across the balance of the year and through 2001."
The LS-7700s ordered are fully featured systems incorporating both 2-D and 3-D inspection technologies. "We also note with interest that the customer earlier in the quarter expressed concerns over whether there were sufficient front-end wafer starts to maintain their planned growth," Mr. Gray said. "In the past few weeks, this particular customer has seen sufficient evidence of incoming business not only to proceed with the order but to begin discussing their next round of capacity expansion."
