CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS - September 13, 2001 - Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (Nasdaq: ROBV) today said its Acuity CiMatrix Division has received an order for its latest generation of omnidirectional scanners totaling approximately $600,000.

The products will be used by one of the world's largest parcel handling organizations to identify, track, and sort packages at one of the organization's U.S. handling centers.  The order came through one of RVSI's business partners, which will integrate RVSI's scanners with other equipment.

The OMNI scanners specified for the application provide a low-cost, easily installed, single-box solution for the parcel handling industry.  Such scanners read bar-code labels on packages and help perform other sorting routines.  RVSI's OMNI scanners provide exceptionally wide coverage - up to a full meter - on conveyor belts.  They offer extensive connectivity to host networks and support remote, on-line diagnostics.
