RVSI Gets $1.2 Million Order for Tape-and-Reel Handling Systems

CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS - September 5, 2000 - Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (NASDAQ: ROBV) today said it has received a $1.2 million order for multiple versions of its ST-585 semiconductor handling systems. The sale was made to the Philippines facility of a large European chip manufacturer and was made by RVSI's Systemation Division in New Berlin, WI.
"With this most recent order, this customer will have an installed base of more than 50 of our systems worldwide," said Val Taruntaev, President - RVSI Systemation. "This newest order represents RVSI's breadth of capabilities: we're configuring the systems to run a wide variety of semiconductor devices and meet varying production requirements. The systems can be configured for differing input and output requirements (tube, tape, magazine) and each system incorporates machine vision for quality control inspection. This range of flexibility in one system is unique to RVSI."
The ST-585 tape-and-reel system offers safe, high-speed device handling for packaging SOIC, SSOP, MSOP, TSSOP, SOJ and similar types of surface mount devices into tubes or carrier tape. The ST-585 has many new features to improve reliability and drive effective throughputs to match cycle rates. The ST-585 is also engineered to incorporate RVSI's newest vision equipment for IC inspection.
