RVSI Adjusts Revenue Expectations for First Quarter of FY2001

CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS - December 28, 2000 -Robotic Vision Systems, Inc.(RVSI) (Nasdaq: ROBV) today said based on expected shipments in its currentquarter, the company will report revenues that are significantly below the$50-$55 million guidance given by the company in early November. RVSI'sfirst quarter of fiscal 2001 ends December 31, 2000.
'We are seeing a dramatic slowdown in capital spending on the part of thesemiconductor industry, especially Asian contract assemblers,' said Pat V.Costa, Chairman and CEO of RVSI. 'This slowing of orders also extends toour machine vision sales to semiconductor equipment suppliers and certainother industries.'
'We are fortunate to have a very solid financial base and to be essentiallydebt-free,' Mr. Costa said. 'We also continue to maintain our excellentmarket positions based on a fine array of new products across our servedmarkets. We will continue our emphasis on R&D so as to be in an evenstronger position to capitalize on the upturn when it occurs.'
