The Imaging Source at Embedded World 2024
From April 9 - 11, The Imaging Source showcased its latest product developments for integration-ready embedded vision at Embedded World 2024 in Nuremberg. Among the highlights were the new MIPI CSI-2 camera series, 36S, as well as a Toradex-based carrier board for The Imaging Source's MIPI CSI-2 and FPD-Link III cameras.

Designed for versatility, The Imaging Source's new carrier board features an NXP-based System-on-Module (SoM) from Toradex that supports single and dual-camera embedded vision applications. The integration of our MIPI CSI-2 and FPD-Link III camera portfolio with industrial-grade connectivity, reliability and product longevity offers an adaptable and scalable image processing platform for lean and efficient hardware development. Some key features include:
- 22-pin and 15-pin cameras with Sony and onsemi sensors
- Toradex Verdin iMX8M Plus SoM
- 2x 22-Pin MIPI CSI-2 interfaces
- 1x Gigabit ethernet with power-over-ethernet support
- Optional 2-Channel FPD-Link III daughterboard
- 2x USB 3 interfaces
- HDMI and MIPI DSI display connectors
- GPIO, I²C, SPI, UART, CAN connectors

6-Channel Carrier Board and Raspberry Pi 5
Alongside these new products, The Imaging Source demonstrated a 6-channel carrier board paired with NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX SoM. The setup showcased the carrier board's multi-camera functionality, flexible camera trigger options, and I/O capabilities via a marble run with a color sorting task.

Rounding out our booth showcases, The Imaging Source also presented a cost-effective dual-camera solution for Raspberry Pi 5. Using DFM 36SX290-ML cameras with wide-angle lenses (118° FoV), the system achieved an approximately 240° FoV. A simple face detection algorithm utilizing libcamera, C++, Gstreamer, and OpenCV was demonstrated with a DNN-based face detector called FaceDetectorYN.
