POSTED 06/13/2000
MINNEAPOLIS -- PPT VISION, Inc. (Nasdaq: PPTV) announced today that it has received follow-on orders for three PPT861™ 3D inspection systems from a leading manufacturer of precision components for hard disk drives. The PPT861 system is equipped with PPT's patented SMI™-based (Scanning Moiré Interferometry™) SpeedScan 3D™ sensor. In this application, the PPT861 is used to perform high speed 3D topographic mapping and inspection of critical dimensions. The Company expects to ship these systems in its fourth quarter of fiscal year 2000.
"These orders came shortly after the successful installation of the first PPT861 system at this customer's site during our second quarter," commented Joseph C. Christenson, President of PPT VISION, Inc. "Given the throughput and accuracy advantages of our PPT861 system, enabled by the use of our patented SpeedScan 3D sensor, we expect strong future growth in the three market niches we have targeted. We are very pleased with this positive business development in our Microelectronics Systems Division," concluded Mr. Christenson.
The PPT861 is a high speed, semi-automated 3D scanning and inspection system. Utilizing PPT's patented SMI 3D technology, the system performs 3D measurements at speeds many times faster than traditional approaches. The PPT861 focuses on specific applications in the electronics and semiconductor industries including electronic connectors, disk drive components, and leaded and bumped semiconductor components.
