PPG Industries Selects DVT SmartImage Sensors for Automated Inspection of Fiberglass Products

September 28, 2001--DVT Corporation (Norcross, GA) announced today it has received a multiple-system order for its machine vision sensor equipment from the second largest global manufacturer of continuous-strand fiberglass, PPG Industries.  The order further bolsters DVT's already strong position as the world's largest provider of "smart camera" vision systems.

The systems that constitute this order are Series 600 SmartImage Sensors, self-contained machine vision sensors that incorporate Ethernet connectivity, image acquisition electronics and microprocessor - all in a palm-sized package that can be easily integrated into virtually any manufacturing line. DVT's partnership with The Georgia Institute of Technology has proven invaluable in providing over 10 hardware releases since DVT developed the very first smart camera in 1991. 

PPG Industries' fiberglass materials become the backbone of products such as electronic printed circuit boards, aircraft laminates, insect screens, cement boards and foil insulation.  DVT's SmartImage Sensors are networked over Ethernet with other automation devices in highly sophisticated manufacturing lines to inspect microscopic fiberglass filaments for breakage during various automated processing steps.
