Point Grey to Showcase World's Smallest USB 3.0 Camera and New Innovations at VISION 2011

POSTED 10/10/2011

Ric
hmond, BC, Canada – Point Grey, a world leader in advanced digital imaging will showcase more "Innovations in Imaging" led by the release of the new Flea3 USB 3.0 line of high-resolution, super-speed, CMOS-based digital cameras. Visitors can also expect to see many other ground-breaking cameras from Point Grey, including the high-speed Grasshopper Express CCD camera series and the Gazelle Camera Link series, which features industry-leading price and performance.

The Flea3 pushes technology boundaries by providing three different interfaces - FireWire, GigE, and USB 3.0 - in the same small, ice-cube form factor. A highlight of this year’s lineup includes the two newly available Flea3 camera series: the Flea3 GigE, the world’s smallest GigE camera; and the Flea3 USB 3.0, the world’s smallest USB 3.0 camera. For those applications requiring long cable lengths and standard, widely available networking components, the FL3-GE series is an ideal solution. For those applications requiring data transfer at extremely high speeds and at low cost, Point Grey will be showing both currently available and upcoming Flea3 USB 3.0 models.

Also newly available this year is the Grasshopper Express IEEE 1394b camera series, which is well-suited for building low latency, highly deterministic, multiple camera networks. Two sensors models will be shown: the Kodak KAI-01050 1 MP 1/2-inch CCD featuring broad dynamic range, low smear, and a 4-output readout architecture generating 1024 x 1024 pixel images at up to 70 FPS; and the highly sensitive the 2.8 MP Sony ICX674 2/3-inch CCD generating 1932x1452 pixel images at 25 FPS.

As price-performance continues to be a key consideration, Point Grey will highlight a number of cost competitive cameras including the Gazelle Camera Link series which offers an unsurpassed combination of size, speed, and price and will be demonstrated with a 2.2 MP 2/3-inch sensor CMOSIS running at 280 FPS. Also shown will be the small and affordable Chameleon using a Sony ICX445 CCD sensor, which is ideal for object and gesture tracking, augmented reality, low-cost machine vision applications.

Vladimir Tucakov, Point Grey’s Director of Business Development, will be giving a presentation at Industrial Vision Days titled, "USB3.0 is here!”. The session will provide insights into progress being made on USB 3.0 technologies since Point Grey demonstrated the world’s first USB3.0 camera in September 2009, including hardware availability, new chipsets, host controllers, hubs, cables, and cameras. The presentation will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, 11:30 am - 12:00 pm.

Point Grey will be exhibiting at VISION 2011 Stuttgart, Germany from November 8 – 10, 2011 in hall 4, booth A31.
