Pixelink® To Roll Out the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Interface Across Full Line of PL-D Cameras
POSTED 10/03/2017
Ottawa, Canada – Pixelink, a global provider of industrial cameras for the machine vision and microscopy markets, announced today that it will support the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface on all machine vision and microscopy cameras.
The Universal Serial Bus is fast becoming the most popular digital interface used in imaging today and the newly released USB 3.1 Gen 2 specifications ensure that the growth of USB in imaging will continue into the future. Pixelink’s M-Series and PL-D line of cameras will be built to integrate with USB 3.1 Gen 2 specifications starting in early 2018. With a bus speed mode of 10 gigabytes per second, the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface can deliver more than double the throughput of the current existing USB 3.0. All Pixelink 3.1 Gen 2 cameras will be fully backward compatible with existing USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 applications.
The USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface supports a maximum of 20 volts at 5 amps for a total of 100 watts of power, a big increase from the 4.5 watts supported by USB 3.0. With the increase of power being delivered with USB 3.1 Gen 2 and a 10GB bus, more cameras can be powered by the USB 3.1 bus for any vision application, which will provide developers much more flexibility in building and deploying multi-camera applications. Pixelink has the best hardware and software technology in the market to support multi-camera imaging applications.
“We have embraced USB 3.1 Gen 2 and its technological innovations early on in R&D with the aim to provide our customers the opportunity to build and deploy vision applications with this new technology” explains Paul Saunders, President of Pixelink. “Pixelink takes pride in leading the industry by implementing the most advanced technology available in the market and we are excited for our customers to experience the improved system performance that will allow them to deploy more sophisticated multi-camera vision applications”.
With the expected higher bandwidth and superior power delivery of 100 watts of the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface, users will enjoy better connectivity and speed, encouraging easy adoption of this exciting new development. The boost in the data transfer of up to 10Gbps will allow Pixelink cameras to take advantage of a more advanced development environment. In short, a Pixelink machine vision or microscopy camera with the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface, enables the user to develop higher speed, multi-camera vision applications.
