ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 8, 2001 - Pat V. Costa, President and Chairman of the Board for Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) has been selected to receive the 2001 Automated Imaging Achievement Award.  The award, which was presented to Costa by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA) on February 8 at the annual AIA Business Conference in Orlando, Florida, honors industry leaders for outstanding contributions in promoting market acceptance of industrial and/or scientific imaging.

Costa has been at the helm of RVSI since 1984.  During his tenure, the company has grown from a small defense contractor to a world leader in high technology machine vision, serving many different industries.  Before joining RVSI, Costa served as publisher of Telecommunication magazine and Technical Director for the H.L. Livermore Company.  He is a graduate of Northeastern University and holds an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

"We're excited about adding Pat's name to the list of industry leaders who have received this prestigious award," observed Jeffrey A. Burnstein, AIA's Executive Director.  "He has been a true pioneer in promoting the machine vision industry, and has also been active in AIA since its founding in 1984, including serving as AIA president from 1986-1988."

AIA's membership now totals some 236 machine vision suppliers, system integrators, end users, research organizations and consulting firms.  AIA is best known for Machine Vision Online (www.machinevisiononline.org), The Vision Show, the industry's leading trade show and conference, its annual Machine Vision Market Study (the 2001 edition will be issued soon) and its annual Business Conference, which brings together top executives from machine vision companies throughout the world.
