Mike Kelley Elected New President of AIA

Four new Board members also named

ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 8, 2001 - Mike Kelley, Director of Marketing at Electro Scientific Industries' Vision Products Division, has been elected the 2001-2002 President of the Automated Imaging Association.

Kelley, who has been on the AIA Board of Directors for the past two years, has taken a lead role in improving AIA's annual market study.  'The AIA study is used throughout the world as a benchmark of the growth of the machine vision industry,' he said.  'As the machine vision market becomes increasingly global, it's important that our study collect better data on Europe, Japan and other overseas markets, and present the data in a way that companies will find extremely user-friendly.'  AIA's 2001 market study is expected to be published in late Spring.

Kelley also stated that continued expansion of Machine Vision Online, AIA's Internet site for the machine vision industry, and efforts to forge new global opportunities for AIA members are at the top of his priority list for the coming year.

'As a trade group, we need to do everything that we can to help educate current and potential users of machine vision,' said Kelley.  'That's why Machine Vision Online is so important - it reaches more than 1,000 users from throughout the world each week.  That's also why AIA is taking the lead in creating new ties between North American, European and Asian machine vision companies.'

Kelley succeeds Dave Dechow, President of ISRA Vision Systems North America/Insight Integration, who remains on the Board as Past President.

AIA also elected four new Board members: Mike Cyros, COO of Datacube, Inc., Salvatore D'Agostino, President and CEO of Computer Recognition Systems (CRS) and John Stack, President of Edmund Industrial Optics; and Fred Molinari, President, Data Translation, Inc.
