LMI Sues Perceptron and USNR

VANCOUVER, CANADA, May 30, 2003- LMI Technologies Inc. (‘‘LMI’‘), a leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced today that it has filed a complaint against Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP) of Plymouth, Michigan and US Natural Resources, Inc. (‘‘USNR’‘) of Woodland, Washington. The complaint was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
LMI designs, develops, manufactures and markets machine vision systems for the forest products, automotive, foundry and other industries. It owns a portfolio of over 100 seminal machine vision and three dimensional measurement patents.
Perceptron is a supplier of machine vision systems to the automotive and other industries. USNR is a forest products company that markets machine vision systems, including machine vision systems made by Perceptron for USNR and marketed under the PERCEPTRON trademark.
LMI informed both Perceptron and USNR of the allegations of infringement in January 2003 and again in writing in April 2003. Both parties were notified of the formal filing of the complaint on May 12. The action asserts willful infringement of US Patent Nos. 5,362,970 and 5,734,172. LMI has raised with Perceptron and USNR the matter of infringement of other patents in LMI’s portfolio.
LMI is headquartered in Vancouver, BC, Canada and has manufacturing and sales facilities in the US, Sweden, The Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and France.
