Launch Into the Metaverse With Our Volumetric Capture System

With widespread adoption of immersive digital world technologies looming, companies must have a means for entering the metaverse.

Metaverse curiosity continues to grow as the notion/ steadily shifts from concept into real-world application. Across different markets and industries, many companies are trying to answer the question: What is the metaverse and how can it impact our business? While answers will vary greatly from case to case, they had better come soon because the metaverse has arrived. 

Enter the Metaverse 

In short, the metaverse can be thought of as the internet in 3D — an integrated network of 3D virtual worlds where people can watch sports, play games, use social media, and even virtually attend places such as school, church, or concerts. Today the metaverse exists as a series of disconnected metaverses much like the “walled gardens” of the early internet (aol.net, bit.net, darpa.net) that eventually came together to form the internet as we know it today, suggested Kristi Woolsey, an associate director at BCG Platinion, in a recent Forbes interview. 

Within a couple of years, suggests Woolsey, we’ll see massive metaverse adoption. To get to the point where the metaverse exists as an interconnected digital world where users experience full immersion via headsets will require high-quality 3D content generation. With that in mind, businesses looking to experiment now and find ways to create content and value in the metaverse must have a means for capturing, processing, and reconstructing video and generating complete 3D models that can be loaded into software like Unreal Engine, Unity, and other emerging metaverse applications. 

Comprehensive Volumetric Capture

In addition to offering high-speed 10GigE and 25GigE Vision cameras that meet the demanding needs of such applications, we now offer our eCapture Pro comprehensive software, which delivers a turnkey software solution that requires no software coding or system design knowledge.

A NAB 2022 Product of the Year Award winner, eCapture Pro software offers a control center from power-up all the way to 3D model asset generation — a complete geometric representation of the scene. These models can be loaded into metaverse software such as Blender and Unreal Engine as a starting point for any kind of 3D production, with assets repurposed for multiple scenarios.  

In this 3D reconstruction and playback demonstration video, 36 cameras, one switch, one server, and one GPU are shown running at 210 Gbps and recording to server SSDs. The system uses 36 HR-12000-S-C 10GigE cameras featuring the 12 MP Sony Pregius IMX253 CMOS sensor. Through a high-speed 10GigE SFP+ interface, the camera reaches up to 84 fps and offers multicamera synchronization at less than 1 µs, low CPU overhead, and fiber cable lengths from 1 m to 10 km without the need for fiber converters or repeaters.
