Richmond, BC, Canada – Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced the addition of two new 5 megapixel global shutter CCD
The new Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-50S5 camera models are based on color and monochrome versions of the popular Sony ICX625, a 2/3" CCD sensor capable of streaming 2448 x 2048 resolution images at 15 FPS. This combination of sensor format, resolution and frame rate have resulted in widespread adoption of this device in a variety of applications including optical inspection, 3D imaging, intelligent traffic systems and much more. The GS3-U3-50S5 offers existing Sony ICX625 sensor users a transitional path to USB 3.0 without affecting optics or imaging performance.
Like all Point Grey USB 3.0 cameras, the Grasshopper3 uses a proprietary USB 3.0 link layer and frame buffer-based architecture for optimal performance and reliability. The Grasshopper3 uses an advanced image processing pipeline to enable color interpolation, look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning and USB3 Vision support.
“The ICX625 device offers an appealing combination of value and performance for applications requiring high resolution global shutter performance, ” says Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing at Point Grey. “By enabling this device on our Grasshopper3 platform, users can combine USB 3.0 ease of use and high bandwidth with a well-known image sensor that many of our customers have already qualified in their applications.”
The GS3-U3-50S5M-C (2/3-inch 5 MP CCD 15 FPS) is list priced at $2,595 / €2095 and is available to order now from Point Grey, its network of distributors, and the online store (for North American, Australian, and EU customers).
