Cognex Named Preferred Machine Vision Supplier by Leading German Automotive Engineering Firm

POSTED 03/04/2004

NATICK, MA, March 3, 2004 -- Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced today that Johann A. Krause Machinefabrik GmbH, a leading global supplier of assembly and test systems for the automotive industry, has named Cognex as its preferred supplier, worldwide, for machine vision systems.

Johann A. Krause designs, develops, and delivers turnkey assembly lines that are used in automotive plants around the world to manufacture and test power train components.  Krause relies on Cognex’s In-Sight family of vision sensors to perform ID-Code reading (both PDF and 2D-Datamatrix codes), OCR/OCV, part detection, part inspection and assembly verification.  And they use VisionPro, Cognex’s PC-based vision systems, for the inspection of sealant beads. The company chose Cognex as its preferred supplier for machine vision because, when linked with Cognex’s vision systems, Krause automation machinery will provide their customers with the highest possible accuracy, productivity, quality and process reliability.

‘‘Cognex’s outstanding technology, years of experience in industrial image processing, and their worldwide support and training were key criteria in our choice of a preferred supplier,’‘ said Dr. Thomas Trittin, Project Manager of Development Controls at Johann A. Krause.  ‘‘By working closely with Cognex engineers, we will be able to fulfill each of our customer’s very demanding needs as quickly and efficiently as possible.’‘

‘‘Collaborating with a strong partner in the power train segment will help Cognex increase our presence in the automotive industry which presents a large and growing market for machine vision,’‘ said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Cognex’s CEO and Chairman.
