Natick, MA, July 23, 2001-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, today announced that its In-Sight™ family of networkable vision sensors are compliant with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.  These regulations relate to technical and procedural compliance for electronic records and signatures in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and other FDA-regulated industries.   As part of its compliance initiative, the company has authored and published detailed Application Guidelines that provide recommendations for developing 21 CFR Part 11-compliant automation projects which incorporate machine vision technology.

"As the FDA accelerates the pace at which they enforce the Part 11 regulations, we want to make sure that customers using In-Sight vision sensors in their manufacturing process are able to comply with minimal effort," said Justin Testa, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Cognex.  "By developing application guidelines and gaining compliance for our networkable ln-Sight sensors, Cognex is able to help pharmaceutical manufacturers ensure compliance with the regulations."

The In-Sight family of networkable vision sensors includes the In-Sight 1000 and 3000 general-purpose vision sensors, and the In-Sight 1010 code reader.  Used in a variety of pharmaceutical inspection applications including date and lot code optical character verification (OCV), blister pack inspection, and label and safety seal inspection, In-Sight sensors offer proven Cognex vision software tools, a vision spreadsheet interface for fast, easy application set-up, and built-in Ethernet communications.
