POSTED 10/10/2005
Ann Arbor, Michigan -- The 14th Annual Automated Imaging Association Business Conference will be held February 1-3, 2006 at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in Orlando, Florida. More than 180 machine vision and imaging industry executives are expected to attend in order to network with their peers and hear presentations on key issues that impact their companies.
Highlights of the conference include a presentation given by Dick Heller, Chief Inspiration Officer of the Tom Peters Company. Mr. Heller is a world renowned speaker on leadership development, innovation and client service. For over two decades, he has helped organizations and individual leaders see that values-based authenticity is the key to organizational growth and success.
Several top industry executives also will speak at the 2006 event, including Dr. Harmut Neven, Founder and CEO of Neven Vision Inc. Dr. Neven is a prominent researcher in the field of computer vision. His company is continuously developing and improving technology for human-machine interfaces with emphasis on detection, localization, feature tracking, recognition and verification for both faces and objects in the mobile and embedded markets.
Bruce Moeller, President and CEO of DriveCam, Inc. will talk about the vision technology in their Driving Behavior Management Systems. The system integrates in-vehicle video technology, driving performance management software, and driver counseling to increase safety and reduce the cost of poor driving.
Improved driving performance is the single most important factor in controlling insurance losses and reducing expenses for fleets. Thousands of commercial vehicles and their drivers are currently protected with this system.
Stefanie Breyer, Senior Group Manager of National Instruments will talk about the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations and compliance. With the European deadline coming up July 1, 2006, and other countries following soon thereafter, this is topic that affects many companies.
‘‘Attending the conference is a great opportunity to network with other industry leaders, some who are already customers and many who may become customers, suppliers or partners in the future,’‘ says Jeffrey A. Burnstein, Executive Director of the Automated Imaging Association.
Adds Burnstein, ‘‘Every year attendees tell us about the vast amount of business they can do in just a day and a half at this event.’‘ To take full advantage of this, some companies bring several of their key people to leverage the business environment that is an integral part of the conference.

'Business leaders are also looking for information that can help them plan their company's strategy, not only for the next several months, but for the next several years. We’ll provide vital information to help companies stay strong and competitive in the marketplace,' Burnstein said.
Paul Kellett, AIA’s Director, Market Analysis, will present the first look at the new AIA Market Study, 2005 Results and Forecasts to 2010, that will be released in the spring of 2006. In response to the needs of AIA members, Kellett is working closely with industry experts to redesign the annual market study. ‘‘We asked members what they wanted, and they said to make it easier to read without losing the depth and data-richness of previous studies.
They also wanted more emphasis on the various component markets and more product-level detail. In addition to these changes, the new study will provide in-depth interpretations of survey results that are brought together in clearly stated, integrated conclusions to provide comprehensive views of individual machine vision markets,’‘ Kellett said.
Other topics to be discussed at the conference include industry standards activity. Updates on GigE™ Vision and Camera Link® standards will be presented.
Founded in 1984, AIA was organized specifically to promote use of image capture and analysis technology and now represents more than 230 machine vision suppliers, system integrators, users, researchers, and consulting firms from 25 nations.
