Volume Determination with Laser Triangulation 3D Scanning
Overview
Accurate volume measurement is essential in the food industry to ensure that packaged products match the declared quantities on their labels. Maintaining this level of precision is necessary for compliance, quality assurance, and customer trust.

Challenge
Measuring the volume of sliced or block-shaped products such as meat, fish, or cheese within an active production line presents several difficulties. Traditional methods can be affected by shadows and inconsistent surface characteristics, leading to inaccuracies. At the same time, measurements must be performed quickly without interrupting the production process.
Solution
To address these challenges, senswork implemented its ZScan® 3D multi-sensor system for inline measurement. This advanced system performs shadow-free 3D scans of products, capturing highly detailed surface data regardless of shape or texture. By generating precise digital representations, the system accurately determines product volume and verifies dimensional consistency in real time, directly within the production cycle.
