Challenge

Manufacturers must maintain precise dimensional accuracy of bricks to ensure consistent quality and compliance with industry standards. Traditional inspection methods often rely on manual sampling or offline measurements, which can delay the detection of quality issues and result in unnecessary scrap and rework. Additionally, ceramic production environments are characterized by dust, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations, making reliable inline measurements particularly challenging.

The customer required an automated solution capable of performing precise quality inspections directly within the production process without interrupting production.

senswork created BrickChecker, an advanced optical 3D measurement system specifically developed for inline inspection of clay bricks and ground tile surfaces.

Using dual-sensor 3D laser scanning technology, the system performs a complete 360° scan of each brick and captures all relevant geometric features within seconds. The solution measures dimensions, flatness, parallelism, and squareness with a resolution of up to 0.1 mm.

Integrated directly into the production line, BrickChecker enables continuous quality control without stopping production or requiring product retooling. Its durable industrial design ensures stable operation even under a demanding ceramic manufacturing environment.

 

MetrologyImplementation

The BrickChecker was installed directly in the production line, enabling fully automated inline quality inspection of all manufactured bricks.



 

The system was configured to accommodate different brick formats and grinding variants while seamlessly integrating with existing conveyor systems and automation infrastructure. Through interfaces to PLC, MES, and customer-specific IT systems, measurement data is immediately available for quality monitoring and process optimization.

Protected optics, automatic calibration, and a vibration-resistant design ensure reliable long-term operation with minimal maintenance requirements.

 

ResultsBrickChecker

The implementation of the BrickChecker provided the customer with continuous, high-precision quality monitoring throughout the manufacturing process.

The system automatically evaluates measurement results against predefined tolerances and instantly identifies deviations in the bricks. Real-time visualization and trend analysis allow operators to quickly identify process variations and take corrective action before defects impact larger production batches.

By detecting quality issues at an early stage, the customer achieved improved process transparency, reduced scrap rates, minimized rework, and increased overall production efficiency.
