The Global Permanent Magnet Industry (Second Edition)
As a result of the unique approach in constructing this directory, one now has access to the most comprehensive compilation of the world’s permanent magnet industry. This directory includes 1,000+ companies located in well over 50 countries. Each individual listing includes a brief assessment of the company’s capabilities and a summary of their product offerings.
Included in this directory are manufacturers of permanent magnets, distributors of permanent magnets and fabricators of magnetic assemblies and systems for commercial and industrial applications.
“Manufacturers” are those companies who actually produce the basic magnet material, whether it is NdFeB (Neodymium-Iron-Boron), SmCo (Samarium Cobalt), sintered ferrite (often called ceramic or hard ferrite), Alnico (Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt), or a variety of bonded magnets produced by injection or compression molding, extrusion or calendering.
“Distributors” are companies who purchase basic magnets from manufacturers and provide local stocking and application engineering assistance (material selection and magnetic circuit design) for their customers. Some “distributors” specialize exclusively in Internet sales or only represent themselves as trading companies. A valuable capability that full service distributors provide is the management and logistics of sourcing magnets, usually from China. Purchasing magnets from China is attractive from a price point of view, but establishing and maintaining a reliable supply chain can be complex and costly. Distributors take on that challenge for their customers.
“Fabricators” are those companies who “add value” to purchased magnets. Value-added products include motor sub-assemblies, magnetic separation products, magnetic material handling systems and a wide range of magnetic holding and lifting products. It is very common for distributors to also fabricate such value-added products. This directory is intended to assist the following individuals or organizations:
-
Industry participants conducting competitive analysis
-
Magnet users seeking to identify new sources for permanent magnets
-
Suppliers of goods and services to the permanent magnet industry
-
Individuals interested in employment in the magnet industry
-
Financial investors considering strategic investment in the industry
-
Industry participants considering acquisitions or divestments
The directory is segmented into three major geographic sections: The Americas (including Central and South America), Europe-Africa (including Eastern Europe and the Middle East), and Asia-Pacific (including Russia, India, New Zealand and Australia).

It is no surprise that the majority of listed companies are located in Mainland China. Today, over 70% of the world’s production of NdFeB magnets (by tonnage) takes place in China. China has also established itself as a primary producer of most other magnetic materials, including sintered ferrite, Alnico and Samarium Cobalt.
In the Appendix to this book we have included a combination glossary and dictionary of more than 300 terms and nomenclature commonly used in the permanent magnet industry. We believe this Appendix represents the most comprehensive overview of the “language” of the permanent magnet industry, available anywhere.
