ISO 10218 series (consisting of two parts) is the flagship safety standard for industrial robotics. The purpose of this standard, Part 2, is to provide guidelines for design and system integration of Industrial Robot Applications and Robot Cells, including methods of safeguarding to enhance the safety of personnel associated with the use of industrial robot applications and robot cells, with emphasis on the importance of risk assessment.

The 2025 revision of ISO 10218-2 for the integration of industrial robot applications and robot cells includes technical changes and reflects ongoing developments in the marketplace. It emphasizes “robot application” and not “robot system”, as the robot application includes the workpieces, task programs, and machinery and equipment to support the application and intended tasks. The 2025 revision includes safety requirements for collaborative applications (formerly content of ISO/TS 15066); clarifies requirements for functional safety; and adds requirements for cybersecurity to the extent that it applies.
