The Bot Index for the Decade 2020:
The bots have done well in the first two weeks of the new decade. With the Indexes repegged for the year-end of 2019, the robotic stocks have increased 6.37%, more than double the 3.06% generated by broader index. The superior returns were despite several of the Japanese components that failed to participate in the market’s strength.
Highlights of the Bot Index:
Led by four components that experienced double-digit returns for the week, the Bot Index gained 3.78%. The best performance was recorded by the Chinese electric automobile manufacturer NIO Corp. The stock increased its share value by one-third. Accuray Inc. gained almost 12% on massive volume, a day before the company was to present itself to the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. 3D Systems rose 14.21% when it reported it had entered a joint venture with CollPlant to produce regenerative medicine. The final double-digit gainer was from iRobot (+11.92%) when Raymond James upgraded the stock from underweight to market exposure.

There were only a few disappointing performers in the Index. Oceaneering International fell 7.46%, most likely due to a decline in crude prices and Yaskawa Electric slid 3.84% despite a relatively robust NIKKI during the week.
