Flexible modular logic for maximum individuality

Smart Config: Modular multi-coupling with extensive digital configurator

Stäubli is expanding its portfolio of multi-coupling systems with a new standardized solution for individual requirements: the Smart Config multi-coupling. This modular coupling can be combined quickly and easily via a digital configurator for the respective individual application. Smart Config is specifically aimed at applications in the automotive industry, especially in body construction, final assembly and testing.

Smart Config is available as a manual or automatic multi-coupling and covers all typical requirements for media, signal, data and power connections in assembly and test applications. Depending on the number of connections required, four coupling widths are available.

Digital configurator: solution and offer in real time

The core of the new solution is the digital configurator. Stäubli sales engineers work with the customer on site to define a multi-coupling that meets individual requirements both technically and economically. After selecting the modules and interfaces, the tool generates a complete configuration including price and delivery time in real time.

In this way, Smart Config significantly shortens the specification and quotation phase: Instead of several coordination loops, users immediately receive a resilient solution that can be ordered directly. This reduces project risks, accelerates investment decisions and creates transparency in the entire procurement process.

Maximum flexibility with Stäubli quality

Smart Config is a highly flexible modular system that adapts flexibly to the process and layout of the respective assembly line. First, the connection type (manual or automatic), centering and guiding elements as well as the floating suspension are defined. The required connections are then selected and placed.

For media circuits, non-dripping, flat-sealing SPC 08 and SPC 12 quick couplings are used, designed for up to 16 bar and up to 500,000 mating cycles. These ensure clean, leak-free coupling, even with cooling media, compressed air or oil. For electrical power, data and signals, the proven Stäubli connection technologies DuraDock multi, DuraDock power and CombiTac uniq are available – with currents of up to 720 A and up to 1,000,000 mating cycles, depending on the version.

Short delivery times for high productivity in the long term

For vehicle manufacturers, global line builders and OEMs, this modularity offers a high degree of future-proofing: Changes in the process or retooling can often be implemented by replacing individual modules instead of using a completely new multi-coupling.

Smart Config positions itself between customer-specific multi-couplings and pre-configured standard systems. Based on a clearly defined modular system and standardized components, solutions with short delivery times are implemented at competitive total costs. For users, this means plannable projects, fast availability and a uniform platform concept across several lines and locations.

Globally on site

The broad product portfolio with coupling solutions for all media, signal, data and energy connections, as well as its international presence with its own subsidiaries in all industrial centers, makes Stäubli an important solution partner for the automotive industry.

With Smart Config, Stäubli underpins this relationship: Smart Config focuses on applications related to electromobility, battery and powertrain production, as well as classic assembly and test processes, where standardized, scalable interfaces are the key to higher productivity.
