RIA Offers Compliance Training for New Robot Safety Standard

POSTED 05/05/2011

rong>Seminars, Webinar and Annual Conference Detail New Requirements

(Ann Arbor, Michigan USA) Four new Robot Safety Training seminars will be conducted during the months of June and July by the Robotic Industries Association (RIA). The training coincides with the upcoming changes in the new R15.06 standard. The standard is expected to be released near the end of the year.

RIA’s Director of Standards Development, Jeff Fryman, reports that the ISO Working Group for Industrial Robot Safety has completed their work on development of the new Part 2 (Systems and Integration) of ISO 10218, as well as the update revision to the Part 1 (Robots). Publication should come in the next few months.

Fryman says, “With the final language of the ISO standard confirmed, final work on the revision of the R15.06 Robot Safety Standard, which will include the ISO document, can now be completed resulting in a document that is relevant world-wide.”

The RIA is offering this series of training seminars detailing the requirements for industrial robot safety over the next couple of months. The seminars will be conducted in Davenport, IA (6/1) at Genesis Systems Group, LLC; Fremont, CA (6/30) at OMRON Scientific Technologies, Inc.; Woodbridge (Chicago), IL (7/20) at Components Express, Inc. and Tanner, AL (7/27) at the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT)/Robotics Technology Park (RTP).

“This is an excellent opportunity to get a leg up on the new requirements, particularly if you are planning a new robotic application in the near future,” says Fryman.

In addition to the seminars, a Robot Safety Awareness Webinar will be conducted on July 19 offering a free chance to hear about the changes directly from RIA before they go into effect. RIA is also sponsoring the annual three-day National Robot Safety Conference XXIII, September 19-21 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Registration for the seminars and webinar and information on other RIA events is available from the Robotics Online Events section, or call RIA headquarters at 734/994-6088.
