Piab’s Kenos Vacuum Grippers are Specially Designed for Lifting Heavy Timber Products

POSTED 09/29/2016

Extending its program of advanced packaging and palletizing products, Piab is introducing Kenos vacuum grippers, targeted at the wood industry. Kenos Vacuum Gripper (KVG) utilizes Piab’s proprietary and energy efficient multi-stage vacuum ejector technology, and specially developed, high quality technical foam for lifting wood products such as MDFs and other parts for furniture.

Kenos Heavy Vacuum Gripper (KHVG) uses either technical foam or suction pads, and is able to handle complete layers of sawn timber, heavy planking and other building materials, as well as un-processed whole timbers. In addition, it can be used to handle very heavy or very long and awkward workpieces.

The KHVG series is designed for use with external vacuum generation and recommended side channel blowers. The use of shutter check valve technology results in a gripping system that is able to withstand the high levels of dust present in saw mills.

The technical foam or suction pads provide an excellent grip even on rough and uneven surfaces. The dimensions and characteristics of the foam/pad surface can be varied, enabling a broad range of application requirements to be met.

“For lifting heavy and often uneven timber products in saw mills you need gripping tools that are very forgiving in terms of positioning. The technology utilized in the Kenos heavy vacuum grippers provides precisely such forgiving action, making them an excellent choice for the industry,” states Josef Karbassi, Vice President of Piab’s Automation Division.

Additionally, the combination of technologies used in the grippers, including the COAX vacuum technology used in the KVG series, and the suction pads or technical foam, guarantees energy efficient solutions for optimal gripping and handling of wood products in any situation.

About Piab
Established in 1951, Piab designs innovative vacuum solutions that improve the energy-efficiency, productivity, and working environments of vacuum users around the world. As a reliable partner to many of the world’s largest manufacturers, Piab develops and manufactures a complete line of vacuum pumps, vacuum accessories, vacuum conveyors and suction cups for a variety of automated material handling and factory automation processes. Piab utilizes COAX®, a completely new dimension in vacuum technology, in many of its original products and solutions. COAX® cartridges are smaller, more energy efficient and more reliable than conventional ejectors, and can be integrated directly into machinery. This allows for the design of a flexible, modular vacuum system. Piab is a worldwide organization with subsidiaries and distributors in almost 70 countries. Its headquarters are in Sweden.
