In addition to offices, the new 305,000 sq ft state-of-the art facility features a 220,000 sq ft manufacturing floor, demonstration area, and eight training classrooms and lab.  The 25-acre site allows for an additional 220,000 sq ft building expansion.  This facility houses Motoman Robotics’ former West Carrollton, Ohio headquarters, along with a manufacturing plant and warehouse that were located in Troy, Ohio.

The 11:15 a.m. ceremony was hosted by Mr. Steve Barhorst, President and COO of Motoman Robotics.  Mr. Masahiro Ogawa, Chairman and CEO of Yaskawa America gave the opening remarks.  Additional speakers included Mr. Yoshikatsu Minami, Director and General Manager of Yaskawa Electric Robotics Division (Kitakyushu, Japan); Mr. Terry Blair, Ohio State Representative, 38th House District; Chris Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development; Sandra Brasington, Western Ohio Regional Liaison to Governor John R. Kasich; and Mayor Dick Church of Miamisburg.

Barhorst thanked Motoman Robotics’ customers for their loyalty and the employees for their dedication. He also expressed appreciation to Yaskawa Electric Corporation, local governmental officials, Montgomery County, the City of Miamisburg, the Dayton and Montgomery County Port Authority, the Transportation Improvement District and RG Properties, among other key contributors, for their efforts and interests in maintaining Motoman Robotics’ operations in Ohio.

Barhorst reported, “In addition to the approximately 250 jobs that have been retained in the area, we have already increased our employment in the Dayton area by approximately 15% this year. We are actively looking to hire additional employees in several disciplines to support our growth.”

Attendees watched as the industry leading dual-arm Motoman® SDA10D robot grasped a samurai sword and cut the ribbon. Motoman Robotics executives and local officials also took turns cutting ribbon with the robot.

Following the ceremony and lunch, guests attended facility tours and sessions on software, material handling and welding technologies.

As part of the celebration, Kazu Okabe, Senior Vice President, hosted the kagami biraki, a traditional Japanese Sake ceremony representing harmony and good fortune. The lid of a sake wine barrel was broken with wooden mallets and sake was served to attendees.

On Saturday, October 8, employees and their families were invited to attend an Open House and Family Day.
