igus to exhibit at FABTECH 2009

POSTED 09/23/2009

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – igus® Inc. will be exhibiting at booth #7046 during the forthcoming FABTECH International show at McCormick Place in Chicago from November 15-18, 2009. New products on show will include a 100 percent chip-proof cable carrier for the machine tool industry and an innovative guide trough system for long travel applications in chip areas.

Described by igus as a ‘new milestone in cable protection’, the new RX40 energy tube is a fully enclosed cable carrier with a smooth, domed outer contour. The design means debris simply falls off—nothing sticks at all; from the most abrasive to the tiniest of particles. Comprehensive tests in igus’ labs confirm the new energy tube is 100 percent chip-repellent and dust, dirt, oil, humidity, heat and cold have no adverse affect whatsoever. Underwater tests prove the cable carrier is completely airtight. The cable carrier is made from igus’ igumid HT (for ‘high temperatures’) polymer, which can withstand temperatures up to 1,562 degrees Fahrenheit.

Despite being tightly sealed against external influences, the RX energy tube is easy to open and has ample space for cables or hoses. Since the cables are easily accessible even after installation, maintenance and machine downtimes are reduced to a minimum. The new energy tube is particularly suitable for short, self-supporting travels inside tooling machines.

Another new product to be unveiled at the FABTECH show will be a unique guide trough system for cable carriers in the machine tool industry in long travel applications up to 164 feet. Guidelok is designed to take the place of enclosed guide troughs, which can become full of debris and metal chips. The new system uses an open trough, so chips can fall through. The cable carrier is kept in place by a spring-loaded roller support, which is pushed back as the cable carrier passes through, before snapping out again after the carrier’s radius has passed. The upper run then rests on the roller support.
