Celebrate Manufacturing Day 2018

If you haven’t heard of Manufacturing Day, the series of events is designed as a celebration of modern manufacturing and serves to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Talks, open houses, and guided tours of manufacturing facilities across the country take place on the first Friday in October. This year, Manufacturing Day takes place on Friday, October 5^th. Currently, there are more than 1,800 registered events nationwide.

Manufacturing Day Message

There are plenty of misconceptions when it comes to manufacturing. Manufacturing Day takes the opportunity to address those misconceptions and provides manufacturers nationwide with the chance to welcome the public into their spaces for a first-hand look at what manufacturing really is—and what it is not.

Beyond showing their facilities to the public, manufacturers intend to address a wide range of issue that affects them day-to-day, including skilled labor shortages, efforts to connect with future generations of workers and consumers, the public image of manufacturing, and endeavoring to support the prosperity of the entire manufacturing industry.

Manufacturing Day History

Manufacturing day was originally created in 2012 by Founding Partner Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International. Since then, Manufacturing Day has received substantial and continued support from organizations dedicated to positively changing the public’s perception of modern manufacturing. These organizations have grown this celebration of modern manufacturing to include even more participating supporters, including National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), and the National Institute of Standards, and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).
