For photovoltaic systems , solar tracking systems increase energy efficiency by optimizing the orientation of the solar collectors with respect to the sun. The tracking is performed on either one or two axes. Single-axis solar tracking systems typically follow the sun as it travels east to west across the sky. Two axis systems also adjust the vertical orientation of the collectors in response to seasonal differences in the height of the sun above the horizon.
