On its way to North America:

Celpia offers AS-Interface technology in the control cabinet

Around the world, the wooden Dalecarlian horse is recognized as a symbol of Sweden. It originated in the Dalecarlia region, known for steel production, mining, and high-level technological know-how. Drawing from this area’s aptitude, the Swedish company Celpia is a conglomerate of three firms that do business in industrial electronics, printed circuit board production and programming, and industrial automation. Celpia aims to combine this expertise to bring more control at a high safety level with an easy-to-install system to the control cabinet.

Traditionally, control cabinet design is challenging. The goal is to help the operator see everything currently happening on an automation network to react quickly to shorten response times and prevent downtimes should errors occur.

Let’s start by looking at the wiring. In a more extensive automation network with numerous actuators and sensors, emergency stops, and similar elements, every device needs its wired connection. This is where Celpia employs AS-Interface technology.

The technology’s two-conductor cable, leading energy and data, eliminates the need for separate wiring, saving time and costs. Every device on the network is simply and without tools pierced into a single AS-Interface cable that then sets up the automation network. Celpia uses its patented wedge technology, wedging the cable into the perfect position for the piercing process. This leaves one single connection for the control cabinet.

Another challenge is the wide variety of possibly occurring faults in all the automation network devices. The operator needs to recognize an error as soon as it occurs to prevent downtimes or at least keep as much of the network running as possible. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the problem immediately. Celpia uses the data channel of the two-conductor AS-Interface cable for its error display.

The cabinet modules offer six different color signals to indicate the details of the fault as well as eight parameter settings for informational light effects, using ASi-5 diagnostics and monitoring options. Additional safety features, such as emergency stops, can easily be added, as the technology supports switches and pushbuttons of any brand.

Celpia started introducing its control cabinet modules to the American market when CEOs Johan Person and Leif Carlsson took part in the joint AS-Interface booth at the PACK EXPO, paving the way to distribution in the US. Celpia describes itself as a company close to the customer, set out to support the implementation of customized control cabinet solutions. Their next target is the introduction of rotary encoder versions of the cabinet modules and a safety version that uses AS-Interface Safety at Work technology and protocols.

The company thrives on customer interaction to identify their needs, ideas, and problems, thus shaping a creative business atmosphere. For more information, please contact [email protected].
