New Safety Integrated Controllers from Siemens

POSTED 03/08/2016

Latest generation of Simatic controllersNuremberg - Siemens new automation controllers extend the range of possible applications for the latest generation of Simatic controllers. The main focus is on the enhanced Safety Integrated range with fail-safe CPUs for the Simatic S7-1500 Software Controller and the distributed Simatic ET 200SP Open Controller. The Simatic ET 200pro Distributed Controllers have been upgraded for standard and fail-safe automation tasks with new CPUs with the latest Simatic S7-1500 technology.

Now, for the first time, the Simatic S7-1500 Software Controller is available with integrated safety functionality. The new CPU 1507S F is the world's only software controller with fail-safe PC-based control that is independent of the operating system. This also eliminates the otherwise essential safety controller, which not only saves space and costs, but also reduces the engineering overhead. The combination of PC-based control and high-level language programs makes the Simatic S7-1500 Software Controller especially suitable for special-purpose machine manufacturing. As it runs independently from Windows, it offers high system availability: For example, this helps the controller to boot quickly, and enables Windows to be updated and rebooted while the controller is running.

The distributed Simatic ET 200SP Open Controller has also been equipped with safety functionality for the first time. The new powerful CPU 1515SP PC F now enables standard and fail-safe automation tasks to be handled by a single device. The advantages include the lower engineering, evaluation and service costs, a smaller space requirement in the control cabinet, and lower stocks of spare parts. The modular Simatic ET 200SP Open Controller is especially suitable for series machine manufacturing. It combines the functions of a PC-based software controller with visualization, Windows applications and central I/Os (inputs/outputs) in a single compact device. Two new controllers with Simatic S7-1500 technology complement the Simatic ET 200pro Distributed Controller, the extremely compact, very rugged and powerful I/O system with IP65/67 degree of protection for mounting directly at the machine. The CPU1516pro-2 PN, which is based on Simatic S7-1500 technology, will be available from mid-2016 in a standard and a fail-safe version for standard and fail-safe automation tasks up to Performance Level e in a single unit.
