Lenze Technology Manager to Discuss New Machine Safety Standards at Midwest Automation Conference

POSTED 05/14/2012

Conference held to educate manufacturing professionals on automation strategies

UXBRIDGE, MA – Martin Grosser of Lenze Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of electrical and mechanical drives, motion control and automation technologies, will present the latest developments in machine safety standards at The Automation Conference in the Chicago area. The annual conference, produced by Summit Media Group, will be held May 22-23 in Rosemont, Illinois.

Designed for automation professionals in the manufacturing, processing and packaging industries, event presentations will focus on delivering practical application advice and visionary insights for automation professionals.

Grosser, technology manager of functional safety for Lenze, will explain how current and pending safety standards affect conditions for operators in the production environment, as well as for equipment manufacturers selling machinery into multiple global markets.

“Newer safety regulations currently coming into effect put the responsibility for machine safety more squarely on the machine manufacturer rather than on the end user, so the safety landscape in the manufacturing industries is set to change dramatically,” said Deb Kling, Director, Commercial Marketing, Lenze Americas. “This is an important area of manufacturing and Martin is delighted to be presenting on the topic of machine safety at the conference.”

Earlier this year, Lenze was recognized by Automation World, part of The Summit Media Group, as an honoree of their 2011 Leadership in Automation award in the category of motion control drives. Lenze was selected based on criteria from their peers -- readers were asked who they go to first when looking for innovative solutions to their automation problems.

Lenze Americas, a major sponsor of the conference, is proud to have customer Langen Packaging Group presenting a session within the packaging track as well. “We are excited to have Steve Stegora from Langen educating attendees on automation in secondary packaging and end-of-line operations.  He will be discussing maximizing overall line efficiency which involves the utilization of robotic automation in conjunction with fixed automation,” added Kling.

In addition, Bryan Griffen, Electrical and Automation Engineering Manager of Nestlé, will present a keynote address about the company’s continuing journey to more effective packaging automation and alignment with the OMAC Packaging Workgroup (OPW). The Organization for Machine Automation and Control (OMAC) was formed to help manufacturers work together to find new and innovative ways to be successful in manufacturing. The objective of the OPW is to maximize the business value of packaging machinery by improving automation guidelines and standards.

The Automation Conference, which will feature more than 25 presentations, will also engage end-users for content development and presentation in a more comprehensive program. Keynote addresses each morning of the conference will be followed by a series of sessions within three concurrent topic tracks focused on the application of automation in manufacturing, processing, and packaging.

Attendees will find a wealth of information on cross-industry concerns such as safety, security, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), energy management and industrial network configuration, as well as specific vertical issues such as regulations, standards and device/machine integration.
