DFARS Compliant Neodymium Iron Boron Now Available at EEC

POSTED 02/24/2020

Neo Homepage GraphicLANDISVILLE, PA - Electron Energy Corporation (EEC) is a U.S. based producer of rare earth magnets and has been a preferred supplier for defense related magnetic solutions for over 50 years. EEC is proud to announce the immediate availability of fully compliant neodymium iron boron with U.S. Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement: DFARS 225.7018, 10 U.S.C. 2533c (The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act-NDAA).

The new section of the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) 225.7018 and a clause at 252.225.7052 was introduced as an Interim Rule on April 30, 2019 and issued as a Final Rule on December 31, 2019. The new rule prohibits the U.S. Department of Defense from purchasing of neodymium iron boron and samarium cobalt magnets from any of the following countries:

  • The Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea
  • The People’s Republic of China
  • The Russian Federation
  • The Islamic Republic of Iran

Neodymium iron boron and samarium cobalt magnets are produced through a process that involves the melting raw of materials to create an alloy, forming of a powder, pressing, sintering, machining and magnetization. The new DFARS regulation restricts the DoD from acquiring any neodymium iron boron or samarium cobalt magnets that were alloyed in any of the countries listed above. Electron Energy Corporation now offers fully complaint rare earth permanent magnets for critical applications such as guidance systems, radar, communication systems, satellites, and electric motors. As a DDTC registered supplier, Electron Energy Corporation is committed to supporting U.S. defense applications with precision magnet components and magnet assemblies.
