Description

About Metalgear

Metalgear Engineering designs and builds top-tier custom automation solutions for manufacturers across a wide range of industries. Based in Saddle Brook, NJ, our team delivers end-to-end engineering — from concept to production-ready systems — including automated assembly lines, PLC & SCADA programming, control cabinet fabrication, robotics integration, pick & place systems, automated testing, and CNC tending machines.

We also supply the industrial components and controls that manufacturers need to build and run modern production lines — from only the best: Siemens, ABB, Phoenix Contact, Banner, Festo, IFM, Rittal, and more. On top of that, we carry our own proprietary product lines: a modular series including T-slot framing, conveyors, and stair and platform systems; wireless compact pallet scales; and unique OEM accessories available exclusively through Metalgear.

Our clients are in industrial manufacturing, aerospace, defense, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. When they've been told their problem is too complex or too fast to deliver, they call us.

Summary

This is a field sales role focused on consultative selling across Metalgear's full portfolio — custom automation solutions and industrial components and controls. You'll understand a client's production challenge, bring in our engineering team when it counts, and drive from first contact to closed deal.

On the project side, engagements typically run $150K–$800K with 6–20 week delivery cycles. On the distribution side, it's transactional and repeatable. Both compound as you build the relationship.

You'll work independently, manage your own pipeline and schedule, and own your territory. National travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect and develop new business through cold outreach, plant visits, trade shows, and industry networking
  • Sell Metalgear's full portfolio: custom automation solutions and industrial components, controls, and equipment
  • Identify and develop relationships at all levels of the customer's organization — engineering, operations, and procurement
  • Conduct discovery and customer presentations; collaborate with our engineering team to scope and propose custom solutions
  • Follow up on quotes and drive opportunities to close
  • Manage and grow existing client relationships
  • Represent Metalgear at national trade shows and industry events
  • Maintain pipeline activity and provide regular reporting on forecast and progress

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of sales experience in industrial automation, capital equipment, or manufacturing technology
  • Technical fluency: production lines, PLC and SCADA systems, robotics, motion control, pneumatics, and process controls. You don't need to program — but you need to hold your own with the engineers in the room.
  • Strong electro/mechanical aptitude
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a territory without daily direction
  • Willingness to travel nationally to customer sites and trade shows
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing, aerospace, defense, food & beverage, pharma, or chemical is a strong plus

Education

BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related) preferred. Equivalent hands-on industry experience will be considered.

Why Metalgear

  • The technology is genuinely interesting. AI vision systems, top-of-the-line robotics, the most advanced automation components available — Metalgear works with the best, and it shows in the solutions we deliver. This makes the selling role exciting. Clients get excited too.
  • Full portfolio: high-value custom automation projects and a deep catalog of industrial components — motors, servos, robotics, pneumatics, controls, sensors, framing, conveyors, and more
  • Premium positioning: we compete on outcomes and quality, not price
  • You'll be building the sales function from the ground up — real ownership, real impact
  • Full autonomy over your territory
  • Health insurance and PTO
  • All business expenses covered: national travel, trade shows, mileage reimbursement, phone ($50–$100/month), client entertainment

Compensation

Base salary: $65,000

OTE: $115,000–$200,000+ — uncapped

Commission is tiered and paid on cash collected net 30 from customer payment:

Sales tier Rate
$0 – $500K 4%
$500K – $1M 6%
$1M – $1.75M 8%
$1.75M+ 10% — uncapped

With projects ranging $150K–$800K, the path to $1M+ in annual sales is a handful of wins.

What that looks like:

Annual sales Total OTE
$500K $85,000
$1M $115,000
$1.5M $155,000
$2M $200,000

Commission terms

Earned and payable on collection of customer payment. Paid net 30 from receipt. Milestone projects paid proportionally per milestone collected. Clawback applies on cancellation, refund, or non-payment.

Start date
