Teguar Pioneers Wi-Fi Solution for All-in-One PC with Increased Strength

Our TM-6140 Horizon Series of fanless all-in-ones has received a face lift in the form of an updated Wi-Fi solution. This product, which joined our catalog in June of 2024, makes for a sleek and rugged industrial all-in-one PC as well as a durable medically certified point of care computer. With a Core Ultra CPU upgrade having just launched in April, we sought to offer the entire Horizon series with its best foot forward. This caused us to revisit its design. 

Now, we’ve engineered a solution we’re proud to offer to our customers. Read on to compare Horizon at its launch with the new design, and to learn how it benefits users across the board. 

Original Design 

At launch, the TM-6140 was equipped with the industry standard for Wi-Fi, being external “pigtail” antennas. This solution presents 2 primary difficulties for our customers: 

1. Antennas protruding out can lead to potential breakage if something is caught on or bumped against them 
2. The visual appearance of the antennas sticking up distracts a viewer from what’s important – the display 

Teguar's Challenge

Teguar set out to design a new solution to address those two primary concerns. The new solution needed to resist breakage and be more visually discreet, while maintaining our high standard of signal strength. 

As the Horizon series is built from a rugged metal enclosure, antennas cannot be embedded internally. Since the metal would interfere with any signals, the solution would need to be external. Further, anything built to protect an antenna attachment would need to be plastic, while still matching the appearance of the rest of the unit. 

Our Solution

We created a plastic enclosure with antennas integrated within it. The plastic exterior protects antennas from breaking or catching on anything, and the shape blends seamlessly with the modular PC on the back of the unit. It looks like a natural extension of the box, working in tandem with Horizon’s design instead of against it. Because of the new antennas’ plastic design, it is able to maintain a long range and a strong connection that you expect from traditional antennas without sacrificing durability, form, and function. 

How You Benefit

This new design benefits users in several ways: 

• The aforementioned drawbacks of the original design were amended — this design brushes off bumps and snags, and also looks more sleek 
• Price was not impacted, giving you the secure build and finer aesthetic look at no added cost 
• Installation is made simpler, as this Wi-Fi solution is attached right out of the box. Previously the antennas needed to be screwed on during installation

Industrial 

The strongest benefit for industrial use cases is the strength of the new design. When swiveling the Horizon PC around on a VESA mounted stand or arm, there’s no worry the former protruding antennas will catch cables or other equipment. In busy environments, similar units take damage, resulting in service calls time and again. With the new design on Horizon, you won’t be making any calls about these antennas.

Medical 

By embedding the new solution in a sleek plastic box, we’ve eliminated external attachments that come with screws, hinges, and crevices. We replaced the appendages with a flat surface that is significantly more hygienic to thoroughly clean. The smoother look also makes for a nicer presentation in patient-facing settings.
