High-Speed Cameras with 1.3 Megapixel Global Shutter CMOS Sensor
POSTED 07/06/2010
Machine vision specialist IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH announces the release of new camera models featuring a 1.3 Megapixel global shutter CMOS sensor. The innovative imaging sensor developed by E2V combines the advantages of CCD technology, such as excellent light sensitivity and color fidelity, with a high frame rate of up to 60 fps and the functional benefits of a CMOS sensor.
With its pixel size of 5.3 µm and its intelligent design, the 1/1.8" sensor from E2V provides a significantly higher sensitivity than comparable CCD sensors. The new CMOS version rivals CCD technology also in color fidelity, which was previously a CCD domain. The sensor is available in monochrome and color. Its global shutter system makes it easy to capture sharp images even of moving objects – as opposed to most CMOS models currently on the market which, due to the rolling shutter method, are only of limited suitability for this type of image capture.
As a CMOS camera is simpler in construction and design than a comparable CCD camera, CMOS models also offer a clearly better price/performance ratio.
The USB and GigE cameras from IDS will be available with E2V's new global shutter CMOS sensor from August 2010. The new models come with the extensive uEye software package that supports all uEye cameras from IDS. The software bundle provides 32-bit and 64-bit drivers for Windows and Linux, an easy-to-use software development kit and many standard interfaces. 3rd party drivers for most common image processing software applications are also included.
